Meet Dr Guy Clare
MA BVSc CertVOphthal
Veterinary Eye Surgeon
Dr Guy Clare is our veterinarian in ophthalmology. He accepts cases on a referral only basis from Primary Care veterinarians that are concerned about your pet’s eye condition. He has been trained in advanced diagnostic and surgical techniques applicable to the investigation and treatment of ophthalmic disease.
Previously Dr Guy ran a private referral practice in the UK and was the visiting ophthalmology consultant to Liverpool University Veterinary Small Animal Hospital. He holds RCVS certification in veterinary ophthalmology (CertVOphthal) and his enthusiastic, down to earth manner makes him popular with clients and vets alike.
Growing up on a smallholding in the UK, Dr Guy was surrounded by animals: horses, dogs, cats, geese and bull-beef. A veterinary surgeon was the only job he can remember wanting to do. Dr Guy graduated September 1994 from Liverpool University having taken a 2 year break to read Natural Sciences at Emmanuel College Cambridge (and play rugby). From 2000 to 2007, Dr Guy and his wife Dr Yvonne owned a small animal practice - Queens' Park Veterinary Surgery in Bolton, Lancashire in the UK. Since 2009 home is the beautiful Peregian Beach area of the Sunshine Coast with Yvonne, their three (near adult) children Freya, Greg and Murray, a little rescue terrier Jack and three horses Harry, Castille and Midge. Outside of work, Dr Guy enjoys horse riding and competes Midge, his 10 yr old, 18hh bay warmblood gelding in eventing (dressage, show-jumping and cross country). A rugby tragic, Dr Guy enjoys watching rugby union and league with his family and friends. His drink of choice would have to be strong beer (> 6%). In 2009 he completed a Half Ironman (70.3km) in a respectable 5h 34min and holds coaching qualifications in: rugby union; surf lifesaving; triathlon; horse riding and olympic weight lifting. He has been a Surf-Lifesaving Age Manager with Sunshine Beach Nippers as well as Chief Riding Instructor at Yandina Pony Club. Dr Guy, together with his 3 children, became Australian Citizens on 18th May 2016.

OUR VALUES
FIXED-FEE SURGERY
We appreciate that the financial implications of advanced veterinary care can be daunting. PetVISION is a busy practice and has the following business model: we see patients promptly and offer transparent, fixed-fee surgical pricing. This is based on a pet's weight and the surgical time it takes to complete the procedure. This is worked out as follows: Take your pet's weight (kg) and x10. This is the '$ Weight Factor'. This is then added to the pricing '$ Time Factor' brackets below:
Sx Grade 1 - Very Quick <15min, no magnification @ $1200 + $ Weight Factor
Sx Grade 2 - Quick 15min to <30min, including magnification @ $1400 + $ Weight Factor
Sx Grade 3 - Intermediate 30min to <60min, including magnification @ $2500 + $ Weight Factor
Sx Grade 4 - Long 60min to <90min @ $3000, including magnification + $ Weight Factor
Sx-Phaco - Cataract surgery is performed on one eye only due to a 0.9% procedural infection risk and costs, including magnfication: $3400 + $ Weight Factor
UNDERSTANDING
We work hard to ensure the an owner or guardian understands their pet's eye problem. Consequently, an owner can make an informed decision about their pet's eye(s). We know that owner understanding is fundamental to empowerment. We want all of our owners to feel in control about any decision they make for their pet. Our website has several links aimed at helping owners understand and care for their pet's eye(s).
CARE
PetVISION’s approach to veterinary services is thoughtful and empathetic. We genuinely care about the animals and their families. We strive for the best possible outcome in everything we do.
INFORMED CHOICES
At the initial consultation, after examination and initial testing, a pet's eye issue(s) will be explained verbally and via diagrams, followed by treatment options. Email is used to communicate findings back to referring veterinary surgeons, usually the same day. This email is also sent to owners and serves as a useful reference of what was discussed during the consultation.
PETS FIRST
Our clinic only treats dogs and cat eye conditions. This allows us to focus on a pet-only skill set.
